The Museum series was an exploration of the visual culture of museums and comparable settings. It was partly a response to the visual parallels between empty galleries and sacred spaces, particularly religious sanctuaries. Environments created to foster contemplation, whether as viewing machines or spiritual retreats, are often beguiling. Specific congruities between the two kinds of spaces are recurring topics in this work: interiors so large they dwarf visitors, the uses of natural and artificial light, and the articulation of architectural expanses to guide a visitor's attention.
